I always keep a notebook on me. And for the odd time I don't or when it's inconvenient I've been known to call myself and leave a message w/ my good idea. Luckily my iPhone has an ap where I can record voice memos and a note pad. This has been great for the middle of the night ideas! I know exactly what you are talking about.
