It’s been a while since I posted. I’ve been busy.

Doing what, you ask?

Why making some lovely clients happy with their brand new shiny WordPress Blogs and custom blog designs.

Shan’s Shreds Designs is taking off and I find that I need an assistant, a maid, a chauffeur, a cook and a clone of myself. I have many irons in the fire and several designs in the works. So stay tuned.

Shop With Me Mama

Kim was a difficult WordPress switch. Her blog was originally on a platform called Doodlekit. Never heard of it? There’s a reason for that…they suck giant donkey balls. They were charging poor Kim $29.99 to host her blog! That is even more than crappy, always getting hacked GoDaddy. Doodlekit’s customer service and blogging platform are the worst I have ever seen. You can only choose the from the five blog templates they offer, customizing them is an exercise in futility and they only allow you so much space for the images you use in your blog posts. For $29.99 a month, I better have way more disk space than what Kim had. Hostgator is only $9.95 per month, you get unlimited domains, email, bandwidth, disk space AND you have full control over your site. Because Doodlekit {or as Kim unlovingly calls it, DoodleSHIT} is such a scam crap bogging platform, there was no way for me to easily import her posts to WordPress, not even via an RSS feed file. I had to have her manually copy and paste each and every post she has ever done into a WordPress.COM dummy site so that they could be imported into a self hosted WordPress site.

All her comments were lost because her RSS feed from DoodleKit would not validate. Even after they said it was fixed. Had I been able to get a valid RSS feed file for both her posts and comments, she would have been switched a long time ago. Or if DoodleKit had ever given Kim a backup of her blog like they kept saying they would. But of course, that never happened. I have literally been working on a way to get her off of that POS platform for months. But it’s done now. She has no comments, except for whatever was left on her site when it was on WordPress.COM, and that blows huge chunks, but it is what it is. At least she is now on a platform that gives her full control over her site, it’s contents and it’s look. And I was very happy that I could be the one to facilitate that move.

Simply Cathi

Cathi wanted to switch to WordPress from Blogger with a new design. She told me she wanted simple, like her blog name. I tried to mimic the header she was currently using on Blogger and added a soft green gradient bottom to soften up the coral a bit. She thought it was beautiful, but too much for her. She wanted really simple: White background with coral text. Those were the two colors I was given to work with. When I was done with the design on my test blog, I noticed how bright the coral was against the stark white background. Or rather my husband did when he saw it from across the room. I convinced her to let me add a bit of the soft green back in and change the stark white background to a smoke color to soften the brightness of the coral. I think it was a good compromise and more importantly, she loves it.

What’s For Dinner?

I found Mara on twitter during one of my rare successful searches for my keywords {blog design, etc.}. She was lamenting about how her blog design needed some serious help but did not know what to do with it. I tweeted that I could help. She saw my portfolio, emailed me and lucky for her, I was running a 20% off special that week so she got a great deal. And that was a relief to this Chicago teacher’s tight budget. I made her an image map header and a truly custom background to go with her food/recipe blog. I think it turned out quite nicely, if I do say so myself. She is thrilled with the design. I was pleased to be able to make her so giddy about the new design that she unveiled it a week before she had originally planned to do so. I did my job. HEH.

Stephanie came to me desperate for a design she could feel comfortable letting others see. She had recently gotten a new blog design, but it was not what she wanted. And, as she told me, the previous designer just would not listen to her at all. She did what she wanted to do, not what the client requested. I pride myself on being able to give my clients exactly what they ask for. Apparently I accomplished this for Stephanie because she loves it. It has her personality, her girls’ pictures and is truly her.

Hard Reset

This is my Big Bro’s blog. I designed it from soup to nuts and even gave him pre-formatted pages where he can sell his e-books and affiliate products. He loves it and the freedom that comes from having a self-hosted WordPress blog. I am good baby sis, damn it! Kevin is a right wing nut job and loves a good debate, so please go give him some love, even if you don’t agree with him.

Mommy Cracked

Mandy just wanted to switch to WordPress from Blogger keeping her design as intact as possible. Normally, Mandy is my good friend {And new business partner}, Susan’s client. But she was slammed at the time that Mandy wanted to switch. So I got the job. I already new all about Mandy and her, uh, indecisiveness and fear of color, so I was prepared. HEH. Actually Mandy was not hard to work with at all. Unfortunately, the first theme she had me use was a POS and had no support. This was a paid theme, not a free one. I still don’t know if she ever got her money back for that crappy ass theme. Hopefully she did. So I put her on a free theme that I knew had excellent support and I use all the time. She was very happy with it. I gave her custom social media icons and a custom background. Of course, now she has hired me to change her theme entirely and I am in the middle of that design now. I do love repeat customers.

So if you need a new design, graphic or just about anything web related, come see me. I can usually accommodate your needs or direct you to someone who can.
