It pretty much started when they took spanking away … away from the parents and the teachers.

I was pretty much a latchkey kid too… but I was taught RESPECT somewhere… most likely my grandparents..
Respect went out the door when the 'powers that be' took discipline out of the homes & authority out of the schools.. the kids are turning into little nazis "telling" on the parents & any adult who doesn't let them have their way…
"smack" them right up the side of the head & teach them RESPECT! make them do some work around the house, don't just throw $$ at them. Even 2 income parents (& single parents) can do this if they want to! it takes time, but it does happen!
No more letting little Jonny tell Adults what to do, it IS suppose to be the other way around…

You can really tell the kids whose parents still do expect & get respect, I hope those kids grow up & beat the heck outta the ignorant ones that don't care or gave up…

The parents are too busy trying to "fit in" and be their child's "friend" to actually try parenting. I get along with my kids (13, 16, & 18), but I do not tolerate disrespect [at least of others]. When Megan was 11 (the 18 year old) she had a little fit when I picked her up from a sleepover. That was November. It was May before she could spend time (outside of school) with her friends again. She never did that again and she likes hanging out with me today. Go figure!

I think parents are just too busy working to buy their kids things they don't need or appreciate, and not taking responsibility for actually RAISING their children. It's not a problem with our country or education, it's the damn PARENTS' fault!

My arse woulda been whipped if I did that…after the whippin, I woulda gotten grounded. My brother? Not so strict with his kids, but from what I can tell…they're fairly well behaved anyhow. Well…except the boy, but he's hyperactive (it runs in the family my brother's hyper and I'm high strung so I can just IMAGINE how our kids are gonna turn out if they ever decide to show up)…

OMG YES! When I was teaching high school, the stuff that would come out of these kids' mouths was ASTOUNDING. I know I'm strict with my girls, but there's VERY good reason.

Because parents are freaking lazy. I might be considered too hard on my kids esp for their age, but they say please, thank you and share in public. Respect is learned through example and discipline.
