Blogger Deletes Blogs, Owners Rush To Move To WordPress
Blogger inadvertently gave a huge boon to WordPress designers last week with their sudden and arbitrary deletion and/or blocking of blogs by their evil demonic bots. No one is totally clear on why this is taking place, but we are theorizing that it has to do with bloggers who have any ads other than Google AdSense or Amazon {Who Google has now partnered with}. It seems that the Google bots are viewing any sites with money-making ads on them as spam. Well making money from ads other than their own or the ones they have approved, that is.
This has Blogger users running to people like me to migrate them ASAP because they fear they could be the next one to get the Google swat. And they are right to be scared. The criteria Google/Blogger is using to determine which blogs get shut down is capricious at best. At worst it is a David and Goliath battle as the big bad Google flexes its power to beat the masses into submission to their ever-changing, and never truly revealed, rules.
With this “spanking”, Blogger has given WordPress a flood of new customers, which in turn is giving blog designers that do WordPress To Blogger migrations an increase in business.
So for that, Google, you necessary evil, I thank you.
This is my latest completed Blogger to WordPress switch, Feisty, Frugal And Fabulous. I used her existing graphics — this is what I do in a standard Blogger to WordPress Switch — for now.
Her new design is coming in a couple of weeks after I get caught up on all the work I had to put off because I was working on the Brandy’s Battle Auction and designing the site. I was busy. But thankfully all of my clients understood that their projects were delayed for a good cause.
I love my clients. They are all so understanding and kind.
And this is my latest full blog design and Blogger To WordPress migration. Bethany was a pleasure to work with and loved the very first draft of her header. THAT is a designer’s dream, right there. 😀 Now please head on over and give her some love, will ya?
These are examples of other Blogger to WordPress migrations I have previously completed:
My first WordPress migration, ever. Sarah will always be near and dear to my heart. She really is an amazing person. And strong as steel. Both of her boys are Autistic and her husband just left for basic training. She is now a military wife. I know she is proud of her husband, but I can’t imagine the stress she must be under now with all she has going on. She is one tough lady.
This is Sarah’s review blog. She didn’t have a domain name, so I just made it a subdomain of her main URL. But I believe she has bought a URL for this one and I will be importing it shortly so it can have its own home. (EDIT: Sarah has now integrated her review blog into her main blog site.)
Candace wanted Thesis, so Thesis is what she got. Candace is an awesome deal blogger and she is one of the sweetest clients I have ever had. I know people say that Thesis is so easy to customize, but really it’s not. There are however Thesis “skins” out there that can make this basic theme do some pretty cool things. Once I figure out how to make them work, I will let you all know.
Another Thesis design. Silvia wanted a very plain blog except for the header. That is exactly what I gave her. She is a very nice woman and does a lot for charity. I am glad I was able to get her to a blogging platform that will help her grow.
So if you feel the need to move to a blogging platform that will not delete you for no good reason, come see me. I can help. And I enjoy doing it. Please also remember that with my service, I switch your Google FriendConnect and your feeds, plus I do a special redirect so that Google doesn’t ding you for duplicate content, your readers do not get left behind and you will not usually have any broken links at all.
Because I’m just that damn good, thankyouverymuch.
I do understand being scared of the switch. I also understand the expense of it. I fought switching for months and months. But now, I know that it is the best thing I have ever done to further my blogging and design business. I even admitted to my friends who begged and teased me about not switching that they were right. That was a hard pill to swallow.
And Lisa? You know I love ya. You also know that I was wrong about switching. The cookies here are really quite tasty. And it isn’t as dark as you made it out to be over here. It’s kind of bright and shiny with lots of cool toys to play with. Let me switch you over and we can both tell Yoda to suck it. 😛

I am trying to get Lisa to come over. She is more stubborn than I was. LOL And I liked Blogger until I found out about WP and what I could do with it. Oh and when I decided to become a designer. I knew I needed a better blogging platform that could grow with me and my needs.
I am a full convert, much to poor Lisa’s chagrin.

I am still leery of WordPress. Sure, it’s fully customizable, blahblah, but I just had a whopper of a virus the other day because someone’s host was hacked and I didn’t know. Took me hours to system restore and then contact support to get MY antivirus back (the virus shut off settings on my comp, had to reinstall things). Would never have happened from Blogger. A few weeks ago, something similar happened to another blogger (something Go Daddy related, I think?). I keep witnessing bitching about blogs going haywire because of WP’s upgrades and plugins not working, etc. I’m a no-fuss kind-of person. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
(But, I am backing up to be safe)

It’s not WP that is the problem 99% of the time, it’s bad hosts like GoDaddy who don’t fully protect their customers from hackers and other security issues.
Honestly WP is awesome. Try getting a dummy blog on wordpress.com and play around with it. You can’t do all the cool things you can do with wordpress.org (self hosted) but you’ll get the gist.
And Blogger IS broken. They are seeing blogs with paid ads and links as spam and deleting them arbitrarily.
I would hate to see all you awesome posts go POOF! because Google are asshats.

I swear, I thank God all the time that when I started blogging a couple of years ago, I chose wordpress.com. Then I migrated to wordpress.org. Knowing me, I can’t imagine the stress I would be under if I was on blogger and this was happening to me. UGH.

My opinion is everyone should hurry and switch, the risk of losing all of your posts is just to great to wait or not do it.
