Baked Bacon! Yes, I Said BAKED.

[ 9 ] November 18, 2012 |

It’s no secret that I LOVE bacon and think that it makes everything better — well, except that bacon flavored lube because that’s just plain disgusting — but I hate cooking it. The grease, getting hit by hot grease, always having to watch it so it doesn’t burn…you get the picture. Plus, I only have a four burner stove and when I’m cooking a full meal, I always wish I had more of them. My solution? Baked bacon! Yes, I said BAKED.

This is so damn easy. It saves you from getting splattered with hot grease and your kitchen from becoming encased in it. All of it is now contained in your oven where it can’t hurt anyone. And it’s so much easier to clean!

Tools:

♦ Wax or parchment paper (NEVER use aluminum foil)

♦ Cookie sheet/Jelly roll pan (you need a pan with at least 1/2 inch sides to help contain the grease or you’ll have an oven fire and nobody wants to deal with that)

♦ Paper towels and plate for draining

♦ Oven

Ingredients:

♦ BACON

Directions:

♦ Preheat oven to 400°

♦ Cover cookie sheet with parchment or wax paper

♦ Place bacon on pan in single layer.

♦ Bake for 15-20 minutes, flipping bacon once.

♦ Remove bacon from pan to drain on plate lined with paper towels.

♦ Pour bacon grease into heat resistant container and place in fridge for later use (I use it to flavor baked/barbeque beans)

♦ Enjoy!

Hubby always bakes bacon (he has for years now) and saves the grease for a “poorman’s” gravy.

Why not just cook it in the microwave? I put about 6 slices on a plate, cover loosely with a paper towel, and cook on HI for 3 min. Then I replace the grease-soaked towel with a clean one and cook on HI for another 2-4 min, depending how crispy I want the bacon. Works perfectly for us!

I did this before and didn’t understand why it took me so long to overcome my fear that the bacon wouldn’t be crispy enough. Glad I was wrong cause this is SO much easier lol! But *sigh* now I want bacon lol.

That’s the way my mom often cooked it. Very good.

I also often make it in the microwave (on a platter generously lined with paper towels, with more paper towels on top of the bacon). It works pretty well. I did make some on the stove yesterday — a mere two slices, as my son only wanted two — and let me tell you, I was cursing out loud the whole time. What a mess.
