Coincidence? Maybe…

Barely a week after President Obama makes his first visit to Mexico, the capital city region {Mexico City} breaks out in a suspected pandemic of Swine Flu. There have been seven U.S. cases of this illness in both Texas and San Diego, Ca. Each of the American cases have had no contact with pigs {other than what was on their plate, I suppose}. Scientists are baffled and concerned by this outbreak.

Authorities in Mexico asked the Public Health Agency of Canada to help identify what’s causing the lung infection that has also spread to five health-care workers, the Ottawa-based agency said in an e-mail yesterday. Mexico Health Minister Jose Cordova canceled classes in Mexico City today and recommended citizens avoid public places.

The four males and three females in San Diego County and Imperial County, California, and in San Antonio, diagnosed with swine flu had mild flu-like symptoms. The patients, 9 to 54 years old, included a father-daughter pair and two boys attending the same Texas school.

The virus is contagious and spreading from human to human, the CDC said in a statement on its Web site. The patients began feeling sick from March 28 to April 19. All have recovered and only one was hospitalized, according to the CDC. None had direct contact with pigs.

“That’s unusual,” Schuchat said. “We don’t know yet how widely it’s spreading and we certainly don’t know the extent of the problem.”

As precaution, CDC is preparing the virus as a vaccine seed strain that could be used to make immunizations, she said.

The swine flu virus contains four different gene segments representing both North American swine and avian influenza, human flu and a Eurasian swine flu, CDC said.

Please tell me that we do not have to worry about another animal~to~human viral mutation? I had a hard enough time freaking out about the Avian Flu, and I was pregnant at the time, now I get to have anxiety over the Swine Flu?? Give me a break! They don’t even have a vaccination for this one yet. And you know there is going to be shortages on it, just like there was when the fear of an Avian Flu outbreak was so high.

Sarcasm/Political Satire Alert

So I ask you, is the fact that this epidemic just happened to coincide with Obama’s Mexico visit purely coincidental or is it something else? Is someone trying to tell us something?

Must refer to it as the H1N1 flu virus, not swine flu. That is just so offensive to the Muslims and Jews. (insert dramatic eye-roll)

Hear this morning there are nine confirmed cases in Chicago. I flew home on Saturday, the only precaution Southwest took was to remove the blankets and pillows from the plane.

And yes, I think it was coincidental that it happened at the same time as Dumbo Ears’ visit.
