Fedoras, Smooshie Socks And Granny Boots: Small Talk Six

It’s time, once again, for Small talk Six! On Saturdays presented by MomDot.com. Today’s topic is “6 pieces of clothing or accessories you’ve owned, loved, and wished would come back in style”. You can answer this with a list of 6 words, 6 phrases, 6 sentences. 6 paragraphs, 6 photos, 6 videos, etc…

Ok, I am a child of the 80’s and aside from the atrocious neon colored clothes, mesh tank tops for men and football player shoulder pads, the fashions were not all that terrible.

1) I loved the skinny ties and how men and women could wear them in the eighties. That more streamlined and stylish version of menswear for women was miles better than the horrible Annie Hall look from the 70’s and early 80’s.

2) Hair scrunchies. I used to have one in every color of the rainbow {and some that were not exactly colors found in nature}. I do still have a couple, but I won’t wear them outside the house for fear of being made fun of  like that poor woman was in an episode of Sex and The City.

3) Smooshie socks. Oh, I used to wear 3 layers of those to match my outfit. But man, when the elastic got shot in those suckers, it was a sad site to behold. I still have a couple pairs in my sock drawer. Ahh, the 80’s…

4) Granny boots. Oh how I loved mine! They were white leather, had a 1 inch kitten heel and extreme pointy toes. They were awesome. I wore them with smooshie socks over peg legged jeans {with zippers at the ankles} and a boyfriend sweater with a long white oxford shirt {hanging below the bottom of the sweater} and a cool marcasite broach at the neck. I looked hawt, damn it! {Think Pretty In Pink. Hell Think Molly Ringwald in every John Hughes film…I wanted to look and dress just like her!}

5) My Simon LeBon fedora. Oh I loved that hat. I wore it with everything! Hey, it was the 80’s and D2 were the bomb. 😀

6) PERMS!! {Not technically a piece of clothing or an accessory, but I am a rebel, after all!! :P} Oh man, I loved the ease of my spiral permed hair. A little mousse, a little blow dryer with a diffuser and you were done.

Wow, now I want to break out the Duran Duran, Adam Ant, Say Anything and Valley Girl soundtrack CD’s and have an 80’s flashback!
