I’m Melting…
It’s a million degrees, we have no central air and I live in The IE.
I have put an ice pack on my feet to feel comfortable enough to sleep.
I feel like I’m walking through Jell-O with this waking up at o’dark-thirty to get The Diva off to kindergarten.
And The Free Range Stupid always seem to find me wherever I go.
This last one at the park I take Ro to after school most days almost got a punch in the face from me for insulting my daughter. You DO NOT insult my five year old and expect to walk away from me unscathed. And if it is a 23 year old chola girl saying it, really expect me to kick your ignorant ass. {More on that one later…}
Oh, yes, and as expected, The Diva got a “Sad Sam” today at school.
It took her 5 whole days to piss off her teacher enough to get her name on the board and no sticker on Friday. She got it for twirling in her pretty dress when she should have been frozen in place, touching the hair of the child sitting next to her and pulling toys from a bin when she was supposed to be reading a book.
I TOLD her teacher that if she did not keep The Diva engaged academically or creatively that this would happen.
She blew me off.
That’ll teach her.

So her school uses shame and humiliation and withholding to manipulate the kids. AWESOME! I say on Friday take that beautiful DIVA out for some ice cream and give her a sparkly butterfly sticker.
Yeah, I am so not cool with the whole names on the board with either a happy face or sad face to show how you acted that day. I think it’s cruel and humiliating.
Her teacher and I will probably end up going rounds on this one. That school will either end up very afraid of me or thinking I’m the best thing since sliced bread.
I vote for the former. 😀
And they want me to join the PTA. 😛
What is it with teachers and belittling students? I went to school to become a teacher. Some of my teaching practices would NOT have included belittling. I think teachers need to be belittled so they know how it would feel. I couldn’t even imagine feeling like that at 5. 🙁

Yeah, I know. I told my brother about this and his right wing nut job ass accused me of being a LIBERAL!!! I nearly reached through the phone and strangled him!
I DO NOT think that this system is good for correcting misbehavior. On the contrary, I think that it could hurt a young child’s self-esteem and make them become a behavior problem because they feel that that is what they are anyway since their name is always on the board.
It’s kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy.
This teacher is NOT going to like me very much if my daughter is not treated correctly and she does not do her damn job TEACHING her things that match her abilities. Ro is VERY smart. She was in the top reading group in her preschool class. Her teachers came to me to ask what they should do to challenge her because she already knew everything!
I told them that she knew sign language and thankfully one of the aides knew sign as well and that became her new challenge.
See how easy that was? Let’s see if her kinder teacher is that concerned about her students academic learning, shall we?
That picture seriously freaks me out haha. I’m so sorry about your daughter and school. I am not looking forward to sending my kids to school. Do you think other teachers will treat my kids special once they find out my husband is a teacher in the district? Haha.
