National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

So remember someone you know who has been touched by cancer. Give to a cancer research organization if you can. Or participate in the Run/Walk for Life, if that is more your style. Just DO something. I honor my Aunt Janet & Godmother Barbara, both Breast Cancer Survivors.

Fight For A Cure!

Please don’t forget this one; We don’t get much press. But I am a cervical cancer survivor & it is important to get the word out.

HPV is the most common sexually transmitted disease, & the most insidious, but gets the least amount of attention. This virus causes HPV disease & 99.7% of all cervical cancers, and most people don’t know they are infected until they get genital warts or a woman’s Pap smear comes back abnormal. Please, ladies, ask for a HPV DNA test at your next Pap smear (most doctors won’t perform this screening test unless you do) & have your young daughters vaccinated. The HPV vaccine is the FIRST ever inoculation against cancer of any kind. It can potentially prevent someone you love from getting a devastating disease. This is HUGE. Whatever your religious beliefs for or against this are, take it from me, get the shot for your girls. Get the test for yourselves.

As soon as my daughter is old enough, she is getting the series. I do not want her to go through what I have. If I were to get pregnant again, I probably wouldn’t be able to carry to term because of the damage to my cervix from this disease & subsequent surgeries. I cannot stress this enough, please, get tested. Get your daughters vaccinated.
